No: Most children will have some degree of what is known as a flexible flatfoot. This is primarily related to ligamentois laxity and some will grow out of it. Years age, orthotics or special shoes were used, but they have no affect on the natural history of the condition; so unless the child is having pain and/or a pressure site, we usually do nothing( if they do, they should be checked).

flatfeet: Because both parents have flatfeet it probably is hereditary. Treatment at this point would be good supportive tennis shoes. At some point when more mature perhaps an orthotic would be appropriate.
