Esophagitis: Inflammation of the esophagus can be due to acid reflux from the stomach, fungal infection from candida, meds like antiinflammatories (motrin, advil), and precancerous conditions like barrett's esophagus. Inflammation of the stomach is usually due to a bacteria called h.Pylori, and also antiinflammatory meds.
