Rest it: Possibly the peroneal muscles ( on the side of the leg) are being affected as they are compensating for your ' weak' ankle. Rest is the obvious solution. However , if you are in the middle of a competitive high school fb season you may want to see an ors( he could help you work through it-- possibly w/ p.T theraband to strengthen your ankle muscles/ tendons, nsaids, bracing etc.) try "spatting".!

See below: Probably best to have the ankle taped for support or to get an ankle brace for support.

Depends on diagnosis: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis, tight shoes)infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy). A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams may be needed to determine the exact cause.
