Yes, and yes: Sneezing is a defense mechanism, and merely means your upper airway and/or nasal passages are irritated. It can be irritation from allergies or from a viral infection (or someone making you sniff pepper).

Both: Sneezing is a nose's reaction to expell offending agents, allergen or virus. The difference is that, a cold lasts about 1-2 weeks; but allergy symptoms can last a long time, depending on the season of the allergen that you r allergic to.

Both possible...: Sneezing and coughing are symptoms of both allergies and upper respiratory viral infections. If it is viral, it will get better in a few days to week or so and symptoms are present regardless of environment. Allergies typically last longer and symptoms improve when away from allergic triggers. See your doctor to determine your diagnosis.
