Callus: A flat piece of hard skin is a callus on the bottom of the foot. These are often diagnosed as a corn because they are similar. These can be very painful. I would go visit my favorite podiatrist for an exam.

Painful Corns: If this really is a corn, removing pressure from the area with a aperture pad will help but it does not correct the problem. See your local podiatrist to evaluate the area and provide correction. This is the most effective way to get relief.
