Usually Indirectly : There are many types of encephalopathy. Diagnosis of encephalopathy is frequently clinical. No set of tests give the diagnosis, but the entire clinical picture with nonspecific test results informs the clinician of the diagnosis. Ct is done first to rule out emergent conditions like intracranial bleed, mass effect, contusion, edema or hydrocephalus that can potentially present with similar symptoms.
