uncommon: Lattice is a site of weakness and stress in the peripheral retina. It is the formation site of retinal detachment in some cases especially in trauma but sometimes without external cause. It is more common in higher myopes. You need to understand the symptoms of detachment and avoid head and eye trauma if possible.

Lattice degeneration: In the retina is akin to thinning and can be associated with increased risk of developing a tear. This in turn increases the risk of developing a retinal detachment. The risk of a "normal" healthy person having an rd is though to be around 1 in 10, 000. If you have lattice, risk may be 2-3 times higher. Still, that makes your risk pretty low overall. Most specialists don't treat lattice alone.
