Does anyone know about the prevalence of leprosy ( the hansen disease) in the u.s.)?

Really rare: Almost all cases are from immigrants carrying the disease to the us. When detected they are sent to carville, louisiana for treatment and to isolate them from the general public. The incidence is tiny.

Rare: There are about 6,500 people w Leprosy in the US. In 2009 there were 213 new US cases. Most new cases are in: California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York & Texas. Leprosy may be transmitted by close contacts with infected armadillos or humans. 95% of people are immune to Leprosy. It is often called the least contagious of the infectious diseases.
