Can't give you odds: You're more likely to catch cold by shaking hands with someone than by being near them when they cough, but you can get it both ways. Keep in mind that when a cold is going around in the community, you're being exposed to it frequently. You may remember the person who coughed around you, but you're likely to come into contact with the virus from others who don't appear ill.
