It Can Be Genetic: There is a genetic component to asthma- meaning that kids of parents with asthma have a higher chance of developing asthma than kids whose parents do not have asthma. It is not just genetic, though, many kids who develop asthma have no family history.

Complex issue: There are genetic factors in asthma, but it is not passed down like eye color. Each new kid is a combination of genes from either parent,so it is hard to say if it will show up at all or to what severity. If both parents have asthma, there is a greater chance a kid would. Even in the same family one kid may have symptoms and the other not.You can't change your genes. but early recognition & rx helps
