Party: You can take him if you absolutely have too. Try and keep him away from the crowd especially if someone has an upper respiratory infection.

Depends: We generally hospitalize any baby under 6-8 wks that develops fever do to the risks they could have acquired a deadly germ during delivery like group b strep. Such an infection can be rapidly progressive, so IV antibiotics, spinal taps and other tests are required. Exposure to a chance by fairly common germ at a "party" could put your kid in the hospital on sepsis watch. I wouldn't go.
