Burning skin: A burning sensation in the skin is usually caused by pressure on a nerve in the skin, a symptom of neuritis. The lower abdomen is a common place to have such symptoms, particularly if you have ever had prior abdominal surgery--appendix, hernia, c-section, etc. What happens is that during the healing process in the skin, a nerve to the skin gets trapped in the scar and gets pinched over time.
