Anovulatory bleeding: If menstrual cycles are not occurring but every 6-8 weeks, odds are high that the bleeding you are having is not in response to ovulation. Anovulatory bleeding occurs in response to the endometrial lining continuing to thicken and no trigger for the lining to be shed. Eventually, the lining becomes so thickened that it sheds just because it is so thick, not because you ovulated.

Probably: If you ovulate and don't conceive, then a period comes 14 days after ovulation. If you do not ovulate you could have irregular, anovulatory bleeding at any time.
