We don't know: I do hpv research (looking at the specific parts of the immune system and their responce to hpv) and the truth is no one knows why some people clear/suppress the virus while others don't. Regarding cervical dysplagia CIN 1 (lsil) approximately 1/3 of women have a future pap smear that is normal, 1/3 keep the cin1(lsil), and 1/3 progress to cin2 (hsil).
