Yes: This is common. The diagnosis is best made clinically, with labs / cultures as an adjunct.

I had a vaginal culture swab which led me to read about how the organism is put in lab conditions to grow. If it multiplies quickly, there was a good amount, at what point do they give up and determine there is insufficient organism to test?
