No: Steroid shots typically last 4-6 weeks. If the shot wore off in a few days, you might have a pain generator from outside the hip joint. Follow up with your orthopedic surgeon.

Quite common: If you did not get the shot under xray or ultrasound guidance, you likely just had an injection for hip bursitis, a very common condition. You get maybe 2/3 chance that the steroid injection will work. The fluid (steroid mixed with lidocaine) from the injection itself likely gave you the brief relief of couple of days. Changing to different steroid may work better. Consult doc again. Good luc.
