Time for tea: Find a teabag for caffeinated tea, moisten it with water, and then place it in your mouth over the socket. Be gentle but bits down a bit to create some pressure and hold it there for about 10-20 minutes. The caffeine will help constrict the blood vessels and stop the bleeding. If that fails, call your dentist. Good luck!

Pressure: Pressure usually stops the bleeding. A sterile gauze placed on the extraction area can be pressed into place while biting down... Do this for 15 minutes, and repeat if necessary. The bleeding should stop. As a last resort, a wet, unused tea bag can be also uses in a similar manner. The tannic acid does the trick.

Control any bleeding: Your dentist gave you a package of gauze and instructions how to control any bleeding. Use the gauze pad placed on the socket and keep firm pressure for 30-40 min.Repeat this procedure as needed till the bleeding stops. Avoid spiting or rinsing your mouth, avoid smoking, hot liquids and do not blow your nose. If concerned see your dentist for post-op appointment.
