Work together: For mild anxiety or depression mindfulness training, other types of meditation, relaxation training, and mild to moderate aerobic exercise can help. If done consistently these approaches may help as much as anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs for some people. In more severe depression ; anxiety these approaches alone are often ineffective, but still useful when combined with medications.

Depends: People can have strong opinions about medications. I try to limit them to clear necessity. That said, i'd pay more attention to the research in that camp (there are both) to avoid side efx ; withdrawal problems. Also, there are benefits for overall health ; functioning from meditation that the drugs lack. You can always add meds if you really need them. Not so easy to stop.

Good Question.: According to research, transcendental meditation does have anti-depressant effects. Medication regulates your condition. Effective psychological coping strategies can actually eliminate the depression with more long term benefits. Generally, the latter in conjunction with medication works very effectively.
