A member asked:

Can being with some one who has a cold sore ever lead to herpes 2?

See below: Classically, herpes simplex type 2 (hsv-2) is genital herpes and hsv-1 is oral herpes (cold sores). However, cold sores can also be hsv-2. So, if someone has hsv-2, then if they have a genital or oral lesion, you can contract it from them through sex or even kissing or sharing a glass if their cold sore is active and present.

Yes: At times, a cold sore on the lip is caused by genital herpes, type 2 herpes. So, you can catch it that way, especially if a person with a cold sore performed oral sex on you.
