Bone loss: Teeth (which contain no bone) are housed in bone which in turn is surrounded by gum tissue. Gum infection (from, for example, not flossing daily), or stress from improper occlusion, can lead to bone loss. Once lost, the bone will not grow back. A Periodontist (gum specialist) is trained to help arrest the bone loss and can sometimes surgically replace the damaged bone.
