I don't believe it: Fear of these new bulbs is being promoted by a right-wing news outlet. I've looked at this and decided that both the concerns about the tiny amounts of ultraviolet radiation and the possibility of contacting some mercury from a broken bulb are far less dangerous than exposures that we accept routinely. Eager to hear what others have to say.

Not very high risk: Yes they emit ultraviolet rays , but not same intensity as from sun, . You need to sit under the bulb several hrs and for many many days or years to have some potential effect to get skin cancers ( not other serious cancers ) which are curable. Worry about tons other ionizing radiation we are constantly bombarded by cell towers, high power lines satellites & so many remote control devices.

Yes you are!: Bulbs are pretty safe. So you should not worry about something like this. There are lot more serious problems in our environment and diet that can be more harmful to your health. So focus on healthy eating, healthy weight and do exercise daily. This will likely keep you more healthy than anything else that you can do.

Yes, No, unknown but: Compact fluorescent bulb do contain mercury but mercury does not escape unless they are broken. It is not known if mercury causes cancer but it causes other serious problems. But mercury in the bulbs cause cancer-causing uv rays to be emitted from them. They're energy efficient but many react to the type of light emitted. Led's are a better choice.
