Yeast overgrowth: Antibiotics kill off susceptible bacteria and allow overgrowth of bacteria and yeasts that are resistant to the antibiotic. Normal vaginal yeasts can overgrow and cause vaginitis. Yeast overgrowth in the colon and rectum can cause infection of the skin around the rectum that can spread to the vagina.
