Similar in what way?: As a viral entity, recurrent hsv is similar to shingles-the recurrent form of chicken pox virus. As an inflammatory lesion, it can be confused with recurrent aphthous ulcers or angular chilitis. As an unknown/undiagnosed lesion, it can mimic a pre- or cancerous lesion in some stages, or even simple trauma. Definitive diagnosis can be made with accurate history, clinical presentation and biopsy.
