DVT: A blood clot in the deep veins can feel like a tender, warm, 'cord-like' structure with an appearance of swelling and redness in the area.

Nothing: You typically cannot feel a blood clot. What you are looking for is swelling in your arm - your entire arm. Upper extremity blood clots are exceedingly rare. If there is any question, go and see your physician for an ultrasound.

Origin of bruise: A bruise (contusion) appears on the skin surface resulting from trauma. Capillaries (tiny vessels) burst from impact. Trapped blood becomes a clot and goes thru changes - dark red-blue-purple-til absorbed by the body. Usually not serious unless get trapped in areas where can cause increase pressures or on blood thinners with excessive bleeding.

What does the blood clot look like from a dry socket?

Would not be a clot: Having a dry socket after a dental extraction means that the clot has become dislodged. Just like when you have a cut on your skin and a scab forms, you need to have a clot form over the extraction site. If the clot becomes dislodged, you will have the bone and underlying tissues exposed which causes the pain. Clots normally become dislodged due to rinsing, spitting, smoking, straw drinking.

Circle of blood: A small circle of blood (a clot) under a nail - from trauma - is unsightly but not dangerous. With no treatment it grows out in a month or so. In an emergency room - completely painless - no anaesthesia needed - a doctor can burn a hole (with a hot paper clip in the nail and drain the blood completely. The hole grows out in a month.
