What kind of doctor treats back pain such as herniated discs?

A Few Specialties!: Most back pain never requires surgery or even expensive testing or treatments. The best at sorting this out are specialists in physical medicine ; rehabilitation. Other specialists that are the most skilled at using non-operative treatment include non-surgeon sports medicine docs and rheumatologists. If you end up needing spinal injections or surgery, these doctors will know who to send you to!

Spine surgeons: Your family doctor may feel comfortable with the initial work-up and treatment. If your symptoms persist, several specialists assist with conservative care including physiatrists and pain management physicians. If the pain persists, spine surgeons ( orthopaedic or neurosurgery ) are the specialists that manage sciatica. Check out spine-health.Com. Good luck.
