A 43-year-old member asked:

what does bun/creatinine ratio of 29 mean?

depends: The 'normal' ratio is 10:1, this will increase if you become volume depleted. Steroids, high protein diet , gastrointestinal bleeding and renal failure can raise the ratio.

A 34-year-old member asked:

My creatinine value is abnormal, what types of medicine will improve it?

Depends: Need to know if level is high from poor blood flow to kidney (pre-renal), intrinsic kidney trouble (intra-renal) or blockage (post-renal). Most common kidney problems in us are from high blood pressure and diabetes. Control those diseases and creatinine should behave itself.

Diabetes and creatin: Normal level of creatinine in blood is 0.6 to 1.2mgmdiabetes effects kidneys if the diabetes is not well controlled, and causes elevation of creatonine level. It is very difficult to reduce the level, but if you control biabetes and keep BP normal you can prevent it from getting worse, if it is too high over six then dialysis may be indicated and will bring the level down.

Between 0.5-1.2: The typical reference ranges for serum creatinine are 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dl for women and 0.7 to 1.2 mg/dl for men. Look for refernce values from the particular lab.

Upper limit : Creatinine of 1.2 is the upper limit of normal. More important is for you see your estimated glomerular filtration rate. Creatinine levels depend primarily on renal function, muscle mass and to some extent on state of hydration. You should discuss this result with your doctor at your next visit, .

Depends: Normal serum creatinine ranges from 0.7- 1.5 mg /dl in many labs, however one should review the normal range in their lab report. BUN ranges from 6 to 20 mg/dl. High serum creatinine and BUN generally indicate kidney damage.Your labs are normal, however review the lab report with md.
