Origin of bruise: A bruise (contusion) appears on the skin surface resulting from trauma. Capillaries (tiny vessels) burst from impact. Trapped blood becomes a clot and goes thru changes - dark red-blue-purple-til absorbed by the body. Usually not serious unless get trapped in areas where can cause increase pressures or on blood thinners with excessive bleeding.
