Basics of bruising: A bruise is the staining left after blood exits the small capillaries in a superficial area of skin. The color changes are due to breakdown of the pigment of the red cells. Massaging the area just increases blood flow allowing the stain to disappear sooner. Since it is not really a clot & is not inside a vein, it cannot travel to another area & trigger a bad event.
