Both do: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is Amoxicillin combined with clavulanic acid which broadens the kinds of bacteria that can be treated by the antibiotic. Most ear infections can be treated with high dose Amoxicillin and Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is usually reserved for patients with recent ear infections or an infection that has not responded to amoxicillin.
