PID: Vaginal infection may ascend into the fallopian tubes through the cervix and cause pelvic inflammatory disease. Acutely, this can cause peritonitis with abdominal and pelvic pain with nausea, vomiting and fever. Longterm infertility and pelvic pain may result if untreated.

Timing !: Late start of you oral contraceptives increases the risk of an unwanted pregnancy. Abstain from intercourse or use condoms during this late pack. Women who can't keep the medication scheduled may do better having an iud or injectable contraception like depo-provera.

Yes !: Other conditions like uterine prolapse, cervical polyps and cervicitis may be the culprit . Certainly, the possibility of cervical cancer is most worrisome and should prompt you to seen your doctor sooner rather than later ! see cervix in the picture
