Tetanus: Tetanus is caused by infectons from clostridium tetani. Infection usually spreads thru a cut or deep puncture wound. Muscle spasms occur in the jaw and elsewhere in the body. "local tetanus" is a very rare form of the disease whereby persistent muscle contractions occur in the same anatomic area of the injury (usually milder and resolves over a few weeks).
