Endo treatment: The medication Danazol is a weak form of testosterone, still being used for the treatment of endometriosis related pain. Works well but side effects are wt gain, fuid retention, decrease breast size, acne , oily skin, facial hair growth. There are better drugs for the treatment of endo.

My sisters son was born with a cleft palate. I am now pregnant and worried my baby may inherit it. Is there anything I can do? Is it genetic?

Multifactorial: Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to cleft palate anomaly. Genetically, you cannot do anything. Certain prescription medications such as steroids, medications used to control epilepsy, etc are associated with this risk. Any medication use during pregnancy should be with caution.
A 21-year-old member asked:

I had a hysterectomy and removal of my tubes and ovaries. However, two years later, I had a very painful area in my pelvis and was told that I had endometriosis. Is this possible?

Endo post Hyst: Removal of the uterus tubes and ovaries is not curative for endometriosis if the endometriosis was not removed at the time of surgery. Even then microscopic foci of endometriosis could regenerate down the road and cause pain. Now i would like to remind you that there are other conditions that may cause pain not related to endometriosis, such as interstitial cystitis, pelvic floor spasms.

Women: By and large, because women (in a traditional setting of penile-vaginal intercourse type sex) are the 'receptors' and have secretions deposited inside them, they are more likely to obtain infections than men. This is especially true for things like hiv.
A 38-year-old member asked:

Does hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptoms cause breast cancer?

It can.: The cause of breast cancer is so complex and poorly understood that it's better to talk about "associations" rather than "causes". Studies have shown that women who have used hormone replacement have a slightly higher incidence of breast cancer as compared to women that have not. In general, if you can avoid it, it's better to, especially if you have other risk factors for breast cancer.

Different brands : Most of the commercially available hgh preparations are identical. The preservative solutions may differ, the technological approach may be different: using bacteria vs mouse cells to manufacture what is really the same drug across the brands available in the us, and the mode of delivery might be different: pen vs pod vs needle/syringe. In the end, the brands in this country work the same.
