Brown discharge: Brown discharge may be older, deoxygenated blood. I am not an obstetrician - so I have just referred this question to 3 of our healthtap obstetricians - hopefully one will be on line to provide some guidance.

Needs evaluation: Brown discharge usually means old blood. While bleeding and pregnancy is very common, it's never considered normal and should be evaluated by your doctor. At 36 weeks it may simply be from your cervix starting to soften and dilate. Your doctor will need to confirm this.
