A member asked:

What are the health benefits of rum?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In my opinion none: Small amounts of alcohol in ANY form (beer, wine or distilled spirits) - ONE standard drink per day - may have a beneficial effect on raising High density lipoprotein (HDL), a form of cholesterol that is protective. However, it goes up far more with exercise. Amounts of alcohol over this do not benefit health - they harm it. More than 1 drink/day in women and 2/day in men is the limit of safe use
