Pelvic joints: The bony pelvis is a ring with three joints. If one of the joints is loose, when the ring encounters the ground force of the sleep surface, the force translates around the ring to the loose joint and thereat stretches the ligaments of this joint. Stretched ligaments hurt. In cases of vertebral spine disorders, lying down takes weight off the spine and the person feels better.
