Meds vs illness: Unfortunately studies have shown some cognitive loss in those with bipolar disorder. It becomes difficult to sort out the effects of illness from those off the meds. Not taking the meds worsens the cognitive outcome because of repeat insults to the brain with more frequent mood cycles, so you are better off taking the mes in the long run. Please discuss these issues with your psychiatrist.
