It is an algae: Grows in fresh water , make it green one time thought could be source of food supply due to high protein , good fats ; low carbohydrates , too expensive to grow in mass scale., claims several medical benefits now a panacea for alternative medicine experts . .Proof is not in the pudding yet

Algae: It's a green algae. Sold as a health supplement and has been touted to treat cancer. Unfortunately, there is no evidence that it treats any disease or has any benefit. There is also some reason to be concerned about toxins you can get from it. Stay away from it until we know more about its possible uses.
