Deplin: Deplin is l-methylfolate (folic acid) -- which bypasses possible mutations of genes coding for enzymes which naturally synthesize this active form of folate (folic acid). L-methylfolate (folic acid) is essential for many neurological functions. You haven't provided enough history to show whether you have this genetic mthfr mutation or need this supplement, but a holistic physician could help you. http://www.abihm.org/.

YES: Deplin, l-methylfolate, is used as an augmentation agent in the treatment of depression. I have been using it for about 5 years for my patients, since it was available, and have had some very good responses with very limited side effects/challenges. Only issue I have found: 2 individuals developed hypomania when i added deplin: one was bipolar and the other had no history of any mood elevation!

Deplin: Agree w dr. Pappas ; dr. Cribari. It can be used by people with schizophrenia or major depression who have low folate (folic acid) levels. People w low folate (folic acid) related to Methotrexate use ; women with some high risk pregnancies (hyperhomocysteinemia). I have yet to use it and I do not know the optimum dosage. Please d/w your prescribing physician.
