Why do one's glutes "clench up" in stressful situations?

Fear: This is a reflexive response incorporated when our predecessors were prey. It is part of a set of reflexes to maintain brain and heart. As blood is shunted from extremities, sense of pain is decreased, etc. The specific advantage is still debated. Today's analogue is along the line of disparagement to being in possible danger to quite real danger, up to death.

Stress: Stressful situations are managed by humans in a number of ways. Seems reasonable that one can easily tighten their glutes in anxiety ridden situations.
