Seek cause for hi BP: It's wise to work a younger hypertensive patient up for kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, pheochromocytoma and a few medical diseases. Many people are programmed genetically to become hypertensive and it is wise to begin medication if fitness and salt restriction fails. Same is basically true for high cholesterol.

BP control: Be sure you have an evaluation for "secondary causes" of hypertension, like kidney disease, adrenal gland dysfunction, and vascular malformations at the kidney or in the aorta. If you have essential hypertension, then eliminate salt from your diet, eliminate saturated fats, eat high quantities of colored fruit and vegetables daily, and lose weight. Don't smoke. Continue to exercise as you are.
