Eczema: Typically, this story is due to eczema, also called atopic dermatitis. Usually the skin seems somewhat dry. Skin moisturizers are an important part of the therapy. Sometimes, steroid creams are also necessary. Limiting exposure to water and soaps helps by decreasing one of the causes of the dry skin. Antihistamines may help with the itching.
