Will having worms make the belly stick out like the kids in other countries?

Not necessarily: Bloating or abdominal distension could be caused by parasites or many other things. Likewise, not having distension does not necessarily rule out a parasitic infection. It is important to consider other symptoms before choosing what tests and treatments are appropriate. Pictures you see of bloated children are more likely related to kwashiorkor/malnutrition.
