Why do we get yeast infections?

Variety of reasons: Yeasts live in our GI tract as part of the normal collection of organisms. They remain benign until we either alter the composition of the competing organisms or create conditions under which they are able to multiply on, or rarely in, our bodies. Antibiotics, diabetes, changes in vaginal acidity, HIV disease and other factors contribute to susceptibility. It does not lead to HIV infection.
