why did my doctor put me in an imoblizer after knee microfracture knee surgery. what is it helping? i'm also toe touch weight bearing.

To rest the knee & -: The ttwb is also to protect the knee joint surfaces, since microfracture procedure was done.
Your knee needs to be rested to allow the healing to occur. If you don't do as you are advised you'll end up with a bad outcome.
Keep doing what you were advised by your surgeon, as only he knows what was there and what was done for it.
