PVD: Posterior vitreous detachment usually occurs over one week, but could take up to three months to develop completely. Anything that tugs on the retina will cause floaters or flashes of light that last seconds and might be associated with eye movement. Most patients with PVD without retinal tears require only reassurance. Floaters often resolve over a period of 3-12 months, but can become permanent.
