Fetal Lung: There are several indications that the fetus is developing normally. The length of the fetus can be determined by an ultrasound. The lungs may be visualized , and the development of any changes in the lung determined within the limitations of the testing. In addition, the developing lung produces surfactant and if the infant is born prematurely, supplemental surfactant may be needed.
