See vein specialist: Varicose veins are due to leaking(refluxing) valves in the saphenous venous system which can be easily diagnosed by a venous reflux sonogram. It would be prudent for you to have this test because it will give you information about your veins your varicose veins and at the same time look at your deep veins for clot evaluation. See a vein specialist.

Swelling: If one leg is suddenly, painfully swollen, that would be concerning for a deep vein thrombosis (dvt). Varicose veins get worse in pregnancy and then may improve after. Wear 20-30 mmhg clmpression stockings while pregnant and then see a vein specialist or phlebologist a few months after you're done breast feeding if you're still having issues.
