Superficial clot.: A clot in a varicose vein is called superficial thrombophlebitis and can be easily removed by a surgeon. Sometimes simply numbing the area with a local anesthetic and then popping it with a needle will drain the clot. Superficial clots in varicose veins are usually treated by wet heat, compression and anti inflammatory meds rather then blood thinners.
