Musculoskeletal.....: There are muscles, bones and cartilage in the chest and abdomen. Any of these structures can be affected when coughing and result in pain. The pain you describe is likely a muscle strain from the cough. You should also be checked for a hernia which can also cause symptoms like you described so see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. If it is muscular, it should get better when the cough does.
