Sternotomy: Sternotomy is the cutting of the sternum, a bone, to access your heart and chest cavities. The bone is wired close with several wires. Like any bone, takes 6 weeks to heal to 80%. Your surgery team will be the best to tell you specifics about your case. Also your surgery team will know what operation was done using the access provided by sternotomy.
